October 2, 2015 - Keystone Heights, FL

Edith was up very early at 5:30 am and drove to the dead end at the lake.  While driving in a deer and two fawns scampered into the forest from the lake area.

The civil colors before the sunrise were mediocre, but Edith decided to wait out for the sunrise. It did not happen because the clouds suddenly appeared from nowhere and blocked the sun’s grand entrance. Bummer!

The morning was just perfect for our hike.  We decided that we were not going anywhere today, but to stay and rest after our hike.  There was an unmarked trail not too far from where we camped.  There were small cactus plants, few deer hoof prints. No birds were sighted.

There are more trails to hike, but because our friends, Bon and Marilyn, were coming for the weekend that we decided to wait for them to go hiking with us during the weekend.

Bon and Marilyn arrived with two guests who followed them in a separate vehicle.  We were surprised to see Holly and Billy.  The more the merrier.  Edna and Jack arrived back after work.  A bonfire was started at site #50 immediately.

After supper we along with others convened at the bonfire telling stories, sharing jokes and bragging rights.  Bon prepared Fruit Smores Waffle Bowl consisting of a mini waffle bowl that is layered with mini marshmallows, chocolate morsels, sliced bananas and strawberries.  They were wrapped in aluminum foils and placed on the grill above the fire and left there for about few minutes or until marshmallows and morsels are melted.  Oh, how divine it was!  We could easily eat another one.  So easy to fix and serve in a snap at camping! Thank you, Bon, for the idea.

Everyone of us enjoyed our time together around the campfire.  Bon reminded us not to forget to attend a geocaching offered by a deaf group tomorrow noon at Pavillion #16.  About a week ago she texted to let us know that she just found out about the workshop and asked if we would be interested in signing up for it.  In Bon’s text she said “U interested? Free lunch provided and geocache games. U want me sign u both up?”  Our reply to her was “Hi. Yeah go ahead and sign up for us. Many thanks”.  We had always wanted to learn more about geocaching because it will be a fun thing to do during hiking anywhere we go and were really excited about the workshop.

Being here without company for two days it is very welcoming to talk and spend time with friends.

A fun evening was had by everyone of us. The fire started to burn down and everyone of us bid goodnight and went into dreamland.
