July 26, 2014 (96th Day)

Both of us were up at 6:15 am, but Edith wanted to sleep in some more. Erwin went ahead and had breakfast.

The bathhouse was clean and the shower was great.  Tided up the camper van a bit, filled up the water tank. Left the campground at 8 am.

First stop was Shell gas station so Erwin can get his morning drink - coffee!!!

Next stop was to check out Montmorency Falls, but after we got there we decided not to go in because we wanted to have enough time to visit other attractions elsewhere.  We were able to drive by and get a glimpse of the falls.

Then we got on Seigneurade to get on 40 westbound.  It was still very hazy in Quebec City, Quebec (QC) when we were on way out.

We crossed Ponte de Laporte bridge, took the wrong exit, but it led us to Parc des Chutes-de-la-Chaudière near Levis, QC.  This park is one of top attractions in Levis.  It has 8 waterfalls and there is an hydroelectric plant.  There is a suspension bridge (370 feet across and 75 ft above the river) and you can walk or bike on, but we did not go there. One of the falls is 115 ft drop and there is a nice panoramic view from the overlook.  We took a pathway to get a close look of the falls.

On way back to the van there was an ambulance by the curbside and Erwin asked the paramedic for directions to get to Boul de la Rive-Sud (132) from here (remember we took the wrong exit)

We finally got on the right way to get on 20 to Charny, then made a left turn to 175 and we finally got on 132 (scenic route).

Few miles down the road we made a left turn to get on Rue Saint-Georges, so we can drive along Saint-Lawrence River for several miles to get a good view of the river and Quebec City.  We made several stops along this route and it was pleasant.  At Levis Ferry Landing Edith walked up to the bank of the ferry, got nice closeup shots of Chateau and the old city.

From the ferry landing we continued on the road until it met 132, turned left. In the middle of the river is an island called Ile d'Orleans island (the one that Edith wanted to get out of yesterday).

Gas stop and rest break in Beaumont, QC

Nice countryside and farmlands on the scenic route. Road conditions were good.
Stopped in Cap-Saint-Ignace to take pictures of church spires and statues. Back to 132, we checked out a church in L'Islet. While in town we pulled over to a park and had lunch while enjoying the view of St. Lawrence River.

Not far from the park we took a look at woodcarved figurines.  Stopped and ordered french fries and onion rings

We made another stop at a park, so we can take a look at a lighthouse in the distance.

Another stop at a church and Erwin went inside the church while Edith was outside taking pictures.  Erwin started to feel tired and frustrated, so Edith took over the driving.  There were rain clouds as we approached Riviere-du-Loup, QC.

We arrived Riviere-du-Loup around 4 pm and we decided that it was time to take a break for the day.  It was an unplanned stop in that town, so we had no idea where the nearest campground was. However, while driving around we saw that there was Walmart and we dry camped there. There were already few RVs parked there.  Behind Walmart was a provincial fair.  We walked over to Tim Horton's to get drinks and use wifi.

After we got back from Tim Horton's we did not feel like eating leftovers and Edith wanted to fix a small bowl of chef salad. Erwin had toasted bread with creamed honey. The sunset looked good and Edith was outside most of the evening taking pictures. As the evening dragged into the night more and more RVs arrived.  Erwin went out for a walk and said there were over 20 RVs on the parking lot.

Before we were ready to go to bed Erwin, for curiosity's sake, went out to count RVs. It was over 35. Walmart could make $$$ if they charge RVs for parking overnight.

It was a very quiet and peaceful night.
