May 11, 2014 (20th Day)

Up at 7 am and it was partly cloudy. It is Mother's Day!

Alan and Al were already up when we walked in the house. We had our breakfast out on the porch and Al came out and chatted with us. He told us his story about growing up in Mexico. He showed us pictures of the the town he grew up in. Then Alan came and joined us. Then Jack came. We all chatted for a good while. Jack finally found a picture of Alan's parents burial site that Edith saw and took picture of when she was visiting Galliano cemetery site in Galliano, Lousiana. Edith pulled up pictures on the laptop, scanned through and finally found it. Yes, it is Alan's parents' s site. Small world that Edith has a picture of it and two weeks later Edith met Jack's friend/roommate, Alan. (See 8th day blog, April 29th for more info on this)

Good friends!

Looking at the watch we realized it was time to get back on the road, so we bid Jack and his roommates good bye at 10:30 am. Edith hopes that it will not be too long before she and Jack meet again. She and Jack have been keeping in touch with each other via Facebook.

We continued driving on US 290 to Austin. Erwin texted his first cousin, Ramona to see if we could meet her somewhere. Initally it was not possible for her to meet us, but then she texted Edith and asked if we could join her and the family for pizza at Home Slice in Austin, across from Texas School for The Deaf so we did. It was hard finding a parking spot considering that it is Mother's Day and everyone was already lining up at many restaurants, but we found a spot 4 blocks away. It was good to see Ramona and her sons, Tommy and Bobby.  The last time we saw the boys was about 20 years ago. Tommy's wife, Sheri and his daughter Chloe. Tommy said we could park overnight at his place and we were glad to accept and get to know them better.

Delicious!!!

After lunch we decided to browse some stores on Congress Ave. Edith has always wanted to get a pair of cowboy boots, tried some of them, but could not decide which ones to get. She walked away from the store with no shopping bag :-(
The store has rows and rows of boots, so it is hard to look at each one of them.  They have Lucchese boots that cost over $1k because they are handmade and of fine quality.

We enjoyed strolling up and down the street on Congress Ave, but it started to get crowded, so we decided it was time to hit the road and go south to Buda, TX to spend the night at Tommy's house.  Tommy's wife, Sheri whipped up a very delicious dinner consisting of steak, baked potato, corn, salad and dessert.  Thank you, Sheri for filling up our hungry tummies.  Ramona's husband, Curtis was there, and it was good to see him again.  We all sat down and chatted until we bid everyone good night.

Note: Half of Edith's pictures taken on May 11, 2014 were curiously mysteriously deleted from the file, so she did not have more pictures to share with y'all
