June 11, 2017 - Fort Nelson, BC to Muncho Lake, BC

It was overcast this morning. The weather live app called for 2% chance of rain here in Fort Nelson, but we will be in Muncho Lake, BC this afternoon.

Muncho Lake, BC is 153 miles from Fort Nelson, BC and we will camp at Muncho Lake Losge and RV Park for 2 nights

The Eagles team went out first at 9 am and was followed by our team, Sea Turtles, 20 minutes after.

After leaving the campground we made a left turn to get on the Alaska Highway (Highway 97).  The pavement was good until we entered the Canadian Rockies territory and the road became bumpy for several miles.

The forests along both sides of the highway were thick.  The scenery was very beautiful.  We finally saw two black bears grazing on the side of the highway.  Five minutes later we saw a lone black bear, again on the right side.
It was raining on/off, then the fog became heavy. The clouds were lying low as we ascended toward the Steamboat Mountain rest area on the southwest side of the highway. There is a viewing platform with information panels. However, the visibility was not good.  muskwa river valley and Rocky Mountains.

We did not stop at double-ended turnout to get a view of Indian Head Mountain that resembles the Indian profile because of the poor visibility.

We checked out for Tetsa River Lodge's famous cinnamon buns at Mile 375 for our late breakfast. We ordered two - one to eat here and one to go. It was oh so yummy!  $5 each plus tax. The store had a one of a kind gift shop with local crafts, clothing, paintings, etc. Left at 11:30 am and back to Highway 97.

The fog started to lift up some and the visibility was better. Now we began to see more of the mountains.

Next stop was to check out the historic Toad River Lodge where it is well known for displaying thousands of hats on the ceilings and walls. They are inside the Tetsa River cafe. Two group members, Ted & Brian, donated their hats, making it a total of 10,960 hats on hand.

We arrived  Muncho Lake, BC at 2 pm, checked into Muncho Lake Lodge & RV Park. Steve, the wagonmaster, was there to lead us to campsites.
The view of Muncho Lake and the mountains in the back was very beautiful.  The clouds were lying low in some places, making it very interesting for photography.

Since it was our free afternoon and evening to explore we went out for a drive on the Alaska Highway looking for Stone sheep, found them grazing along and near the highway. There were like 10 of them.  We pulled over to the shoulder and watched them for a while
