June 30, 2017 - Valdez, AK to Palmer, AK

It was a very gloomy morning, but it was still beautiful all around.  The weather forecast called for 95% chance of rain today.

Our Sea Turtles team was third in line to leave Valdez for Palmer,AK. We checked out of Eagle's Rest RV Park at 8:10 am, got back on Alaska Highway-4.
Richard and Eileen were back from Fairbanks, AK after getting their rig repaired, and rejoined with us at The Hub.  After a short chat Richard took the lead again.

The Glenn Highway was like a mini roller coaster (the road surface looked like a washboard).  Too many frost heaves, and the roads were windy and hilly.

We had lunch at the Eurkea Lodge, opened by Paul Waverly in 1937.  Richard and Eileen's coach is called Eureka.  I had grilled cheese sandwich with macaroni salad and Erwin got chicken strips with French fries.

We stopped at Matanuska Glacier State Recreation Area to take a look at the glacier.  We, along with Sea Turtles team, took a short hike to get a close look of the glacier.  It was said that some 18,000 years ago the glacier reached all the way to Palmer town.  How did they figure out it was 18,000???  Anyway, the average width of this glacier is 2 miles!
