July 28, 2014 (98th Day)

Up at 6 am. The sky did not look too bad and we thought we would continue with Plan A, which is to drive the loop around Gaspesie, Quebec (QC).  But as we were getting ready to head out it started to rain, so we switched to Plan B.  Erwin was not up to driving today, so Edith took it over.  It rained and rained until we got to Cap Chat, QC and we could not find the lighthouse, so we stopped at a gas station to ask for directions. "Go back west 10km and you will find it", the gas station guy said. OY!  We were already 6 miles past the lighthouse and decided that we were not going to turn around to go west.  Yes, the weather started to clear up a bit, but there were lots of rain clouds out there and we did not want to take a chance.

Lots of wind turbines on top of the mountain

We entered New Richmond, QC and ,as usual, stopped at visitor's center to get information on two lighthouses that we wanted to see.  The one is inside the Heritage Village (paid admission) and the other one is in Carleton-de-sur (no activities).  We went by the Heritage Village first, but after scouting the area we changed our minds and decided not to go inside because of the foul weather.  Then we went to Carleton Lighthouse at Pointe Tracadigash Park.  We had no trouble finding it, but the parking was small. It took a while to wait for one to become available.  We climbed up 26 steps to the top.  On way to first flight Edith bumped her head!  There were people on the beach and one was kiteboarding on the water.

No Fresnel lens anymore, new modern technology does better now!

Not far from the lighthouse was a picnic area, so we fixed lunch and went outside, sat down to enjoy the view (it was not raining at that time)

Next stop was Pointe-a-la-Croix, QC. We made a left turn to get on Boul Inter-Provinical to cross the bridge to New Brunswick (NB).

First lighthouse we saw was Campellton Lighthouse, but it was not open for tours and is now a hostel.

It started to rain in Bel River Crossing, NB, but it did not last very long.

Cool van still in process of renovation/restoration

In one of visitor's brochures it mentioned Landry's Birdseye Bowls in Belledune, NB and Erwin wanted to stop by to take a look at woodturning bowls and other stuff.  Very nice quality and good craftsmanship.  Bought birdseye spatula ($11.30 Canadian dollars)

All light poles are painted in New Brunswick flag colors with single star!

We continued on our journey until we arrived Bathhurst, NB to look for campgrounds. There were two and we picked one at Bathhurst Marina for $30 a night.

Ominous looking clouds! Yes, we got hard downpours later.
