May 22, 2014 (31st Day)

Partly sunny/cloudy in low 70's

We decided not to take a bath because the bathhouse had no door, no bench to put stuff on and the conditions were unacceptable. Some campgrounds are better than others and some are worse such as this one! The campground was beautiful but the bath house was the pits!

After breakfast we toured Buffalo Springs Lake area then went on FM 835 then right on FM 3523 to county road to check the steel house and abstract mosiac house. Both were awesome and had great views of the lake!

We stopped by American Wind Power Center where there are hundreds and hundreds of antique/old windmills as well as the modern wind turbine.  The center is a non-profit organization.

Part of the mural

Isn't the details in the wood amazing?
We left our mark there in the heavy dust in the windmill, this is better than using a felt pen or knife!
Ravens used pieces of wire to build their nests.
One of their favorite spots to build their nest is on the windmill.  Where they are high up away from predators and where they can see "food"!

Because Erwin loves listening to country music he knew a lot about Buddy Holly, a singer who was killed in plane crash in 1959. We visited Buddy Holly Center and the house that belonged to Jerry Allison's parents. Buddy was born in Lubbock, TX.  He was probably the most famous for starting   1050's rock and roll music. Sadly, his success lasted only a year and half before his death.

Buddy and the Crickets
Sigh.. we remembered what this TV looked like during 1950's
We drove through Lubbock downtown, not much exciting to see, but we saw one Roadside Attraction - Personal Injury Lawyer Gorilla. That is the slogan of an attorney and he has some gorilla statues at the corner of his office.

Few miles outside of Lubbock we stopped at the Interpretive Center at Lubbock Lake Landmark State Park to see and take pictures of the lif-sized 11 foot tall bronze statue of Big Mammoth Mom and Baby. There were other bronze statues of some animals.

Littlefield, TX worls tallest windmill

Waylon Jennings' hometown and water tower in Shallowater, TX

Got on US 385 for Amarillo
Our camper van reached 8,000 miles while we were on US 385 in Springlake, TX

We spotted our first wild turkey in Hereford, TX

Now on our way to Amarillo, TX the sky looked threatening, and we were hoping to find a campground before the rain started.

We decided to camp out at Fort Amarillo RV Park. got there at 6:45 pm.  As soon as we got settled down then came the heavy rain and the lightning show lasted for about half an hour.  Power outrage lasted as long. Because of the outage there was no electricity to use microwave or air conditioning, so Edith changed the menu where she can cook on propane stove. That was so easy!

At Fort Amarillo RV Park just before the rain began
Downpour!

  2. Edith found out about the smallest church after we left Lubbock... Like you said, there is so much to see that it is almost impossible to cover each and every one of them
