May 20, 2014 (29th Day)

Partly sunny 66º

When we stepped out of the van there were more semi trucks parked near us.

Since there is no shower facility in Walmart we sponge bathed.  It does not make us feel cleaner, but this will do for the day.

We left Walmart at 7:40 am. Got on 190/377/87, then on 283/84 toward Coleman, TX. It was a very pleasant drive.  Stopped in Coleman to take pictures of Cattle Portraits (Roadside Attraction). Drove through the town, pretty much an empty town

Now on Route 84 for Abilene, TX

Water tower in Lawn, TX on Country Road 172

Left on US 83 S for Buffalo Gap. Then right on FM 613.  First time see wind turbines in the distance

Road Construction on 613

Another road construction!!!

We arrived Buffalo Gap, TX at 10:15 am, went to Steakhouse restaurant to look for giant armadillo sculpture (Roadside Attraction)

We got back on 89 to go visit Buffalo Gap Historic Village. It is a large museum of 15 outdoor structures and has Texas artifacts from late 19th and early 20th centuries. Admission was $6 per person. We found the village very interesting.  Took us over an hour and half to look around.
Bob, an American bison, was a resident at Buffalo Gap
Historic Village for more than a year before passing
away peacefully.  White bisons are sacred to the Plains
Indians and the birth of one is considered a great event.

Erwin can imagine himself using these!

Quite a lumpy bed, don't you think?

A balancing act!

Hey, hurry up in there! I need to go!!!
Old time wagon!
Seeing what it feels like wearing a dunce hat...

On way to Abilene on FM 89, arrived Abilene city limit at noon time.

Went to Frontier Texas - Visitor's Center to look for one attraction - a big skeletal skull

Took pics of metal sculptures along S 1st Street

Hey, Mr. Buffalo...Don't go on Edith...

We had to check into Abilene KOA very early in the day as Edith was not feeling too good to continue sightseeing. They assigned us a site, but it was not shaded, so they moved us to a different site.  Edith took a nap while Erwin read a book and caught up on Facebook statuses.

For supper Erwin fixed BBQ chicken thighs, corn on the cob and rice/broccoli.  While we were eating outside a big bird flew around and landed on a branch not far from the tree we sat under, and it then flew to a nest right above us. It was a hawk! Couldn't get a good image of the hawk!

  2. We could shower in our van, but that will use up too much water
