June 20, 2017 - Whitehorse, YT

We slept like logs this morning, slept past 9 am. Even though it was not all dark outside we were able to sleep through the night.

It was overcast with 50% chance of rain. Yesterday the weather app called for a sunny day, but that is not going to happen 😔

We checked into Yukon Visitor Center to find out if there is a computer store in town. Yes, there is a small "Apple" store a block away from here.  My photo stick seemed to be corrupted and I needed a new photo stick to back up photos from my iPhone.

The monument is a tribute to all guides and
outfitters, past and present.

We walked over to Media Store, signed in on the wait list.  It was not very long before we were called up.  The guy checked my photo stick and confirmed that it is indeed corrupted. He suggested to contact Sandisk for support and a replacement, if qualified.  The store did not have on hand the photo stick I was looking for. The guy suggested us to check at Staples, few miles from here.

At Staples they did not have wireless photo stick like my old one. Jose, the salesperson, suggested one product. After purchasing it he tested it on my iPhone to be sure it worked.  Nope, it did not work 😡. He was as surprised as I was, so I got money back.  He then suggested Lexar jumpdrive 128 mb. He tested it first to be sure my iPhone will accept it. It did, so I paid for it. He then downloaded the app for backing up photos.  Backing up photos was easy!  I was happy and relieved because I did not want to run out of the storage on my iPhone and not be able to take pictures for the rest of our Alaska trip.

We had lunch at the Klondike Rib & Salmon (we ate there 5 years ago). It is ranked #1 in Whitehorse.  Erwin had a bowl of Heavenly Halibut Chowder and I had a basket of fish and chips.  Very good and fresh!

We meandered along the Main Street downtown, checked out some murals.  We checked out the fish ladder, but the salmon won't be back until mid or late July, but there are small fry in the tank.

We checked out the viewpoint of Canyon Mountain and Miles Canyon. We then went down to Miles Canyon spot where we can hike along the path and walk across the pedestrian bridge over the Yukon River. As we were about to turn around to go back to the parking lot a policeman came over to talk to a group of hikers, who spotted a injured guy with shorts, but no shirt or shoes sitting at the bank down below.  One witness reported that the guy jumped into the river, then attempted to climb up but lost balance and tumbled down. A rescue boat came to pick him up and transported him for medical evaluation. There was a sign prohibiting jumping into the river.  The guy will probably be fined for it.

After supper we joined with our Sea Turtles members around the campfire.  It was still very bright around 9:15 pm when we called it a night.
