June 7, 2017 - Acheson, AB Canada

We decided not to go sightseeing today. I had Muttart Conversatory on my list to visit, but I wanted to catch up on our blog before we headed out of here to begin our Alaska trip. Also, Erwin wanted to do the laundry because we had no idea how easy it is to find laundromats while traveling in Alaska.

We took the laundry to be washed at the campground. There we met Manon, a deaf local, who is an employee at the campground. We chatted for a good while.  Her daughter works at the front desk, but was off today.

After the laundry we shopped at Safeway to get few items, then to Costco to get a large tub of virgin coconut oil (Safeway has the same size for $36.99 CD and Costco sells it for $26.99 CD - $10 savings!)

John, one of the Alaska Caravan members, came over to try and figure out where the noise comes from on the driver side of our Lil' Home (LH). Erwin explained to him that he heard a loud noise after leaving the truck/RV wash yesterday.  After testing and driving John did not hear any noise, asked Erwin to describe the noise.  They opened the front panel to see if there was anything loose or whatever.  NOTHING...

Then Erwin explained to John about the warning light on the dashboard that would come on once in a while especially in the mornings. Back inside the LH John asked Erwin to run messages on the dashboard, suddenly noticed one message about the engine.  He copied the information, so he can google to see what the message meant.  It turned out that there was not enough antifreeze, so we had to go to the store, but we cannot just buy any kind of antifreeze. It had to be special, and we were lucky that one store, 6 miles away from the campground, had them in stock. $25 for just one container and we needed TWO!

Each rig was assigned a numbered decal to identify which team it is in.  We got #20 and we were assigned to travel with #16-19.

There was a travel briefing in the hall at the campground.  Steve and Gary took turns explaining about how the trip works.  Each team will leave 20 minutes apart so that we do not all leave at the same time and clog up the highway for other truckers and travelers.  Bears will be the first team to leave the campground at 7 am tomorrow morning.  Our team, Sea Turtles, will leave at 7:50 am.  The next travel day the lead team drops to the last team and second team leads out, that way no one has to get up early every time, everybody rotates.

After the travel briefing we went over to Richard & Eileen's rig to get information on tomorrow's trip routes, places to stop and visit.  At that time it was decided that Richard and Eileen will be the lead with us following them.  Ted/Dee #3, Bill/Donna #4 and Brian/Nancy #5.
