May 23, 2014 (32nd Day)

Our first rainy morning we woke up to.  Last night we had heavy downpour and there were lots of lightnings. However, we slept through the night

Because we arrived at the campground late last night the office was closed and we were not able to pay for it, so we stopped by the office first thing to pay and pick up receipt.  When Erwin mentioned about the rain last night the guy at the desk told him that the last couple days of rain was more than they had in the last 10 years! So, that tells us that they got enough rain.  While there we decided to go inside Lizzie Mae's Mercantile store that is next to the office. Very lovely stuff they have. Some things we would love to buy, but we said it is a BIG no-no.

It was time to get gas, so we looked up Gas Buddy app, and there is Love's not far from the campground. $3.28 per gallon.  While on way to Love's we saw Cadillac Ranch (10 Cadillac cars), but nobody was there.  The path to the cars was too muddy to walk up to the spot from parking lot. We were there last year, so we did not miss anything.

This dumpster was on this side of the fence so there were lots of lawbreakers, NO??

Now it is time for us to visit museums/attractions for few hours. First stop was Jack Sisemore RV Museum.  It started to drizzle a bit when we got inside the store.  The museum was in the back behind the store, so we would have to walk quite a way, but one of the sales agents gladly escorted us with an umbrella to the museum.  Once we got inside the museum we did not realize that the lady went back to the office with the umbrella.  OY! We really enjoyed seeing the antique retro trailers, camping stuff, etc.  When we were done and ready to go back to the van there was heavy downpour. We waited inside the museum for abut 15 minutes, then we said let's go, time's a wasting!  Ran as hard as we could to the office. We were not soaked, but enough to wet our hair.  While inside the store Edith noticed a large puddle on the floor in the showroom and alerted the agents about it. Turned out that there was so much water outside right in front of the store that it seeped inside the building. OY! As soon as the rain started to let up we ran to the van.

This Bus was used in a movie "RV" by the Gornike Family with Robin Willams!

Edith wanted to get cowboy boots for herself, so we went by Cavender's, but they did not have the prettiest boots.  Erwin got himself a white long sleeved Western shirt.

Unique door handle at Cavender's
Obviously, he did not like the hat...

As we were done shopping and headed out the door the rain has finally stopped. This will make driving much easier and less exhausting.

Now we were ready for road trip, so we got on I-40 W to 1061 (Tascosa Road) to see Floating Mesa (Roadside Attraction). What this attraction is simply a large white band painted across the mesa just below the top and when you stand at a distance it looks like there is nothing holding the top to the rest of the mesa!

Then we continued on that road going east to Loop 335 North.

We were getting hungry, so we pulled over to a picnic area north of Masterson, TX, so we can fix sandwiches.  Parked few feet away from us was a motorhome with license tag from FL, so Erwin walked over to talk to them.  The people were outside walking their dog, but hurriedly ran inside the motorhome and locked it.  They looked so scared, and Erwin wondered why.  Perhaps they thought Erwin was going to rob them or something.  They left immediately.  Oh well.

After lunch we continued trekking to Dumas to take picture of a water tower.  Then another water tower in Catcus, TX.

Great plains of yellow and green, still beautiful

Entering Rita Blanca National Grassland

Entered OK state line at 3:05 pm. Roads are very bumpy and rough.

Entered Colorado state line at 3:30 pm (MST) on US 287/385
Wonder why Erwin stuck his tongue out?

Made a stop in Springfield, CO to take pics of metal sculptures.

We saw what must have been over 500 or 1,000 wind turbines 30 miles south of Lamar, CO.

Saw first rolling tumbleweed at rest area off US 287. While at a rest area there were beehive mounds.

Arrived Lamar, CO at 5:30 pm. As we were pulling into Country Acres Motel and RV Park there were 6 deers grazing on the opposite side of the road.

We had beef stroganoff for supper. After supper we walked around the campground for a while. The sunset was not that spectacular so Edith did not take any pictures.

Very breezy outside.  It was a very relaxing evening. We were already looking forward to starting the trip the next day.
